Last Flight Out by Shirley Miller is the suspenseful story of a woman who must run through the gauntlet of an evil syndicate while trying to advance in her advertising career. Her move to Chicago proved a wise choice – until some unsavory characters came into her life. Danielle is intent on separating her advertising career while juggling with sinister elements from the underworld that she had inadvertently fallen into, but it was not an easy task.

Danielle navigates through  narrow escapes with life, sex and death as she deals with a woman’s worst fears. This is a book that’s hard to put down. You’ll love her simple and direct style while maintaining the mystique and action among characters from start to finish.

An Exciting Read from Start to Finish

Last Flight Out by S.J. Miller is an intriguing novel that will keep readers turning the pages with anticipation. The story moves at a fast pace, and the characters are realistic with each one having distinct personalities. Danielle Reynolds is the main character who seeks opportunities in the field of advertising.

It’s the sixties and she quickly learns about discrimination in the workplace. Eventually she has a great title with the responsibilities, but she discovers that her salary is half of what her male counterparts earn. Frustrated, she knows she has to earn extra money. But how?

The young woman doesn’t plan on becoming a professional escort or companion – but she doesn’t stop it from happening. Before long she finds herself in a situation where murder, the Mafia, political corruption,  and the Chicago underground rule.

A flashback to the first chapter – and the last chapter, shows Danielle rushing to the airport to escape, hoping to start a new life in Los Angeles. Soon she would be in California where she would make a new start. Once again, she would be free – at least that’s what she believed.

Although Last Flight Out is a “quick read” book, it is mesmerizing. The author has managed to write this novel so that readers don’t see or feel her presence woven within the plot – a skill that many authors lack. I eagerly await a sequel to this novel by a writer whom I expect to become well-known.

Dual lives are not all that uncommon. "Last Flight Out" follows Danielle, an aspiring career woman who finds herself rooted in the criminal underworld of Chicago as she tries to push her legitimate career further. An unwilling participant, Danielle looks for anyway out she can while retaining her own career and most importantly her life. "Last Flight Out" is an enjoyable read of being a professional woman faced with the corrupt.
